Frontier Pitts Static Terra Venus Bollards and Hinged Swing Gate at Westgate Shopping Centre, Oxford

The new £440m Westgate Shopping Centre opened in Oxford in 2017. Covering 800,000 sq ft (74,300 sq m) with space for 100 shops, restaurants and a cinema, with an estimated 15m people will visiting annually.

Challenge
With the number of visitors each year, all Shopping Centres are classed as Crowded Place venues. Around all Shopping Centres you will now find HVM Terra Bollards which protect the busy pedestrianised areas from vehicle attacks, whilst allowing pedestrians to walk freely. All installations need to blend in to the surrounding areas so not to deter visitors

All Shopping Centres also have a Service Yard Entrance for deliveries which are normally secured with an Automatic Security Gate. These Gates can be quite large, need to have a full dull rating to achieve the many operations, and require a desirable looking infill to meet the Architects vision; all achievable by the Expert Gate Manufacturers

Result – HVM Bollards

Frontier Pitts Static Terra Venus Bollards are installed around the perimeter of the shopping centre with a stainless-steel sleeved finish and black banding which reflects white. The HVM Terra Venus Bollards have been successfully impact tested to the British PAS 68 specification at 30mph and proven to stop a vehicle attack. In some areas Removable Terra Venus Bollards have been installed.

Result – Service Yard Hinged Gates

For the Services Yard, Frontier Pitts manufacture sets of Manual Hinged Swing Security Gates, one with an integrated pedestrian gate. Rather than securing the gate leaf to a hinged post, Frontier Pitts worked closely with the Construction company to engineer the gate leaf to be hung from the buildings steelwork. Frontier Pitts also manufactured the special design infill panels.
