Frontier Pitts Hydraulic Bollards Rise to the Occasion

For restaurants and public houses with their own private car parks, commuters abusing their facility by parking all day has become a growing problem. In sites based in the town centres, traffic management systems such as barriers are also prone to vandalism.
Hydraulic rising bollards from Frontier Pitts, the leading manufacturer of gates, barriers and road blockers, offers a solution to the problem. Suitable for sites offering open access to the public, hydraulic bollards are also reportedly popular with banks and retailers as they act as a deterrent to ram-raiders. Hydraulic bollards are resistant against vandalism and bridge the gap between automatic barriers and Road Blockers systems in terms of security and cost.
Frontier Pitts was approached by Toby Carvery to provide a perimeter control solution to their restaurant car parks around the London area. The bollards needed to allow valid customers to park in the car park, but deter not restaurant users.
To meet these requirements, vehicle detector system were installed so that the bollards would lower when a vehicle approached. This system also ensured that the bollards only raised once a vehicle had fully cleared the area. On exit a digital keypad lowered the bollards for genuine visitors to the restaurant. An intercom system linked to the bar of the restaurant was provided for exit by delivery drivers.

A standard hydraulic bollard unit has a lifted height of 600mm, available up to 900mm for special applications. Standard raise/lower time 2.6 seconds, although adjustable operating speeds are available. The control cabinet houses the bollards hydraulics with heavy duty hoses and cables connecting the bollard to the control cabinet.
In addition, the hydraulic cylinder will fully raise the bollard against obstructions of up to 200Kg and then lock into position to resist a downward force of up to 2000Kg. Manual lowering of the bollard is possible in the event of power failure.

Hydraulic Rising Bollard systems have various additions, including traffic control lights, mounted on the cabinet or on a mounting post in a vandal resistant cage, vehicle detection by inductive loop or photocell systems. Standard colours are black and yellow chevrons for the bollards and white for control cabinets, although any colour schemes and stainless steel finishes are available, subject to positioning on the public highway.

Frontier Pitts Terra Bollard is the crash rated hydraulic bollard model which has been successfully tested to withstand an impact from a vehicle weighing 7.5 tonnes, travelling at 50mph (80kph).

Hydraulic Rising Bollards, like all Frontier-Pitts products, are entirely designed and built in Britain to the most stringent international standards.
